DIY Toy Figurine Jewellery Dish for Mum this Mother's Day | MiniZoo Blog
Create a special gift for mum this mother's day with a DIY Toy Figurine Jewellery Dish!
These jewellery holders are simply gorgeous. Super easy to make, this gift won't blow the budget, doesn't take long to create and at the end, mum will have a gift she can treasure while displaying her favourite jewellery too!
What you will need:
- Toy figurine. It's important to choose figurines that work best for what we are trying to achieve. Think animals with upright tails, long necks, trunks, antlers etc. Anything able to hold necklaces, bracelets and rings easily. I'm using the Papo Guardian of the Forest because the branches hold jewellery up so well! I also made another one with the Papo Stork with Baby. The mother and baby stork are just perfect for mother's day and the long necks are great for stacking rings on.
- A dish or plate. This is for the figurine to set on, so make sure it's large enough to fit the figurine and able to hold other bits and pieces too. I chose to use this soap dish from Kmart - it's the perfect size!
- Hot glue and a hot glue gun - for adults use only please!
- Paint and a paint brush. Choose colour, neutral, matte, glossy, glittery - whatever! Have fun and make it something mum will love to display with her other decor. I used a copper metallic paint and a pink satin paint for a pretty, girly finish mum will love.
Step 1. Paint! This is where the kids have fun and paint the figurine however they like! Make it extra special for mum to receive. Optional: Paint the dish too!
Step 2. Wait for the paint to dry on the figurine. You may need 2-3 coats to cover the whole thing.
Step 3. This step is for adults to complete. Use a hot glue gun to glue the figurine to the base dish. You'll want to place it in the centre for best use.
Wait for the glue to settle and you're done with your new creation!
Dress it up with some new (or borrowed) jewellery and present it to mum for an amazing gift that's both personal and practical, she'll want to keep it forever! Personalise it even more by using a black marker to write a little note underneath the dish. Include the name of the child who painted it, and the year you're gifting it to mum.
If you decide to make one or two (or three!) of these this mother's day, we'd love to see them! Share a photo on our Facebook page or email one to me, I can't wait to see!
Happy crafting kids! And happy mother's day to all the amazing mum's out there!
